The VCL-2710, IEEE C37.94 Multi-Mode to Single-Mode Optical Converter is a ruggedized, sub-station-hardened converter that converts IEEE C37.94 Multi-Mode signal to Optical Single-Mode Optical signal. The equipment is designed to extend IEEE C37.94 multi-mode signals over extended single-mode optical fiber spans. The VCL-2710, IEEE C37.94 Multi-Mode to Single-Mode Optical Converter includes the clock synchronization and clock re-generation functions which allows it to transmit the IEEE C37.94 multi-mode signal over very long single-mode optical fiber links of up to 50dB optical link loss budget (i.e. typical reach of 167 Miles / 270 Kms).
Question 1: What is the latency across the VCL-2710 unit in ms, i.e., from the IEEE C37.94 input to the SFP output. Answer: Less than 125 microseconds (i.e. 0.125 ms).
Question 2: What is the end-to-end transmission time in ms, i.e., the total time on the IEEE C37.94 interface on one unit, across the SMF link, and out the C37.94 interface on the other. (assuming a distance of 40Km / 25 Miles between the units). Answer: The end-to-end time transmission time is less than 250 microseconds (i.e. 0.250 ms), assuming an optical span of 40KM / 25 Miles.
Question 3: What is the variation (jitter/wander) on the latency, e.g., +/- 125us Answer: The unit boasts of a very precise clock recovery and jitter attenuation circuitry that makes it extremely suitable for very long optical spans. The output jitter is less than 0.05UI peak-to-peak (which is similar to DS1, TDM transmission equipment). The jitter and wander tolerance meets and exceeds the ITU Rec. G.823 specifications.
Question 4: In regards to the 48V DC supply, is your power supply negative ground, positive ground or free-floating? And does your power supply support the same environmental ratings as the VCL-2710? Answer: It is a free-floating power supply and the 48V DC version of the equipment works over the range from 18V DC to 72V DC. It can work on 24V DC and 48V DC power inputs without requiring any modifications. The power input is protected against reverse polarity and the equipment is not damaged if the power input is connected backwards, in the reverse polarity. The equipment shall work only once you correct the input power polarity.
